Canyon Kids FAQ

What ages are each class?

Nursery/Toddler: 0-3 yrs, preK/K: 4-5, 1st-3rd: 6-8 years old, 4th-5th: 9-11 years old

It’s my first time, how do I register my children?

There is a computer at the front desk where someone will ask for your names, your children’s names, your birthdates, address, email, and phone number. This will register them in the system so that you can check them in.

How do we check in?

There are check in computers in the main hallway. Enter in your phone number, select children you are checking in, clock”done”, and labels will print for each child to stick on their shirt. You will keep the parent tag for pickup. The person picking up child is required to have the matching tag.

What time can I check my child in?

Children can begin to arrive in class ten minutes before service begins, as long as there are two teachers in the class.

Who are the teachers?

The teachers are loving, dedicated volunteers who care about your child and their spiritual growth. Each volunteer is a follower of Christ, has been attending the church for at least 3 months, and has a cleared background check. They have been trained by the Children’s director and are equipped each week with the Biblical lesson and tools needed to teach your child. Some of our teachers are also experienced in children with special needs.

How do I know that my child(red) are safe?

Our teachers are carefully and prayerfully selected. As stated above, they are followers of Christ, have been attending the church for at least 3 months, have filled out an application, and have cleared a background check. Your child will be in the Children’s Ministry area until you pick them up with a security tag that matches their code. You may only pick up your child if you have a matching security tag. There are qualified and trained team members who serve on the security team each week. They walk the halls, check classrooms, and ensure the safety of your children and those at church.

What if my child needs me during service?

Should your child need you during service, the code that’s on your parent tag will appear on the screen during the service. For example, it will say “Child pickup: XMN” and you can proceed to the class to check in with your child and their teacher.

What if my child needs to use the restroom during service? If your child needs to use the restroom, they will be accompanied by an adult, who will stand outside of the restroom. Should your child need assistance, the accompanying adult will ask a second qualified adult to assist so that your child is never alone with an adult in the restroom. In the nursery, you will be asked your preference on whether you would like the teacher to change your child’s diaper, or whether you would like to be paged.

How do we know what my child is learning? Each week, your child will be taught chronologically through the Bible. They will begin the first 15 minutes of class socializing and praying with their class, then they will be led in worship by our amazing worship leaders, and then they will return to class to read from the Bible, answer questions about what was read, and do activities to reinforce the lesson. They will also spend time memorizing their mostly memory verse. When you pick up your child, we will hand you a family devotional for 5 days of the week that will allow your family to dive deeper into what your child learned during Sunday school. You will also receive a newsletter each month to help you stay up to date with what your child is learning.

How do I stay up to date on events?

App, website, flyers posted on walls of kids area, newsletter sent out to parents monthly.

Why did my child come home with a prize?

In the elementary classes, children are encouraged to memorize scripture, bring their Bible to class, and to follow Biblical guidelines in class by loving others (Matthew 22:37-39 & 1 Peter 4:8), being respectful (Ephesians 4:2-9 & Hebrews 13:17), being honest (Ephesians 4:25 & Proverbs 12:22), working hard (Colossians 3:23-24 & Philippians 2:14), and serving others (1Thessalonians 5:11 & 1 Peter 4:10). Your child’s teacher may give your child a treasure coin during class if they are practicing these things, of which they can turn in for a prize from the treasure box at the end of class.
